Deandra Walker is a Youth Ambassador at the Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GRPA). She spent last summer interning with GRPA before moving to study in the United States but she still keeps up a virtual relationship.
During her internship she helped with GRPA’s social media communications and the development of IEC materials. She also organized and hosted a few of GRPA’s television programmes.
Deandra was born in New York City, but grew up in Guyana. She was raised in a family of feminists and was taught at a young age the importance of women’s autonomy. As she grew up and looked around her, she realized the importance of opening up the conversation about women’s reproductive health, in a region where topics such as sex are usually swept under the rug.
Deandra is studying two Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Journalism, and in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Ohio University.
