If a Member Association is accredited it means that it meets our 65 membership standards.
List of accredited Member Associations
IPPF is a federation of 152 Member Associations, each making a contribution to sexual and reproductive health in its country in its own way.
Diversity is one of our strengths.
IPPF believes that each Member Association is united by a set of core values, a shared vision and a strong sense of solidarity, despite the very different situations that each Member Association works in.
To check the validity of this belief, we introduced an accreditation system to systematically review each Member Association’s adherence to the 65 essential standards and responsibilities of membership.
The first accreditation cycle ran from 2003 – 2007, and saw 130 reviews conducted throughout the Federation’s six regions.
By May 2008, 83 Member Associations were accredited.
The remaining Member Associations are in the process of completing their plan of action to bring them into full compliance with the standards.
The Member Associations in the following 11 countries complied with all accreditation standards at the time of the review:
• Ghana
• New Zealand
• Brazil
• Mexico
• China
• Hong Kong
• USA
• Puerto Rico
• Australia
• Canada
• Bolivia
An independent evaluation of the accreditation system itself was commissioned in 2007.
All Member Associations that had undergone an accreditation review between 2003 – 2006 were invited to participate in the evaluation.
You can read the resulting report: ‘The Gain and the Pain of Organisational Change’.
A revised accreditation system, taking into account the findings of the independent evaluation, is being developed.
In May 2008 Governing Council approved the amended IPPF Standards and Responsibilities of Membership that will be implemented in 2009.
