About IPPF

IPPF  is a global service provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.

We have six Regional Offices:

Our global headquarters are in London, UK.

We employ over 300 people in our Central/Regional Offices.

We are one of the world's largest organisations: we have more service delivery points than McDonald's.

We are a global network of Member Associations, and we work in over 170 countries - providing and campaigning for sexual and reproductive health care and rights.

IPPF was formed in 1952 at the Third International Conference on Planned Parenthood in Bombay, India. More about our history.

What we believe

  • We believe that sexual and reproductive rights should be internationally recognized as human rights and therefore guaranteed for everyone.
  • We encourage individuals, women in particular, to take control of their reproductive lives.
  • We promote equality between men and women, aiming to eliminate gender biases, especially those that threaten the well-being of women and girls.
  • Above all we promote choices.

Our advances in sexual and reproductive health and rights have always faced challenges from conservative political and religious forces, and this is no different today.

We work in partnership with like-minded organizations, galvanizing support to confront those who want to take away these rights.

Decision making

The Governing Council, which meets biannually, is the Federation's highest policy-making body, comprising 5 representatives from each of the 6 regions of IPPF, including at least 1 person under the age of 25 from each region.
