Valerie DeFillipo

Director of External Affairs

Valerie DeFillipo, Director of External AffairsValerie DeFillipo is the Director of External Affairs for IPPF. She is based in London.

She is responsible for the global advocacy and communication efforts of IPPF, as well as our resource mobilization activities.

She was a lead organizer of the Countdown 2015 Global Roundtable in September 2004, a global non-governmental organization-led effort to mark the tenth anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development.
 
Valerie DeFillipo has enjoyed a varied career with IPPF for over 20 years. Prior to her current position, she was in charge of international policy and advocacy at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Having assumed this role in 1998, Valerie DeFillipo developed Global Partners, an international exchange and speakers’ programme that mobilized a network of 125 US-based affiliates to advocate for increased funding for sexual and reproductive health and rights.  
 
As Executive Director of Planned Parenthood of Miami, she expanded operations significantly, introducing an award-winning teenage pregnancy prevention centre, and expanding media visibility for family planning in South Florida.

Furthermore, Valerie DeFillipo has a decade of experience working with governments and NGOs to strengthen the quality and sustainability of family planning clinical services in locations such as Greece, the Philippines, Jordan and Egypt.

Valerie has a master’s degree from Harvard University.
