Yaya is a volunteer from Bwiam branch – a National council member.
He has helped to create awareness about sexual and reproductive health in the community, by promoting the health and spacing of children.
"I have received training in advocacy, community approaches and leadership, these skills have given me confidence, helped me in my business life and made me respected in the community.
Volunteers provide continuity for GFPA, [our Member Association in Gambia] staff come and go but volunteers are always there to look after the organization".
He attended a GFPA annual general meeting and decided that he wanted to get involved in such a transparent organization, that had so many positive things to offer the community.
"I wanted to be a part of it and help it to succeed.
I have learned a lot about SRH and I'm glad that I am now able to talk about it openly with my wife and children. Information and openness are very important".
