Family Planning agency receives new health kits

4/28/2008

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) yesterday handed over a set of reproductive health kits to the Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood (SIPPA).
The presentation was made by UNFPA Pacific sub-regional office representative and director Najib Assifi to SIPPA vice-president Moddie Nanau.

The donation was part of a project that UNFPA supported in response to the April tsunami that affected the Western Solomons.

SIPPA Gizo Clinic, which is the only non-government organisation in the Western Province that provides information and services in reproductive health, was damaged during the disaster.

As a result reproductive health services were temporarily stopped.

Therefore, as part of UNFPA emergency response, it provided support for the reconstruction and renovation of the clinic.

The project also included supply of reproductive health clinical equipment as well as medicines, drugs and contraceptives.

According to SIPPA, this would assist its nurses to efficiently deliver the necessary services required.
