Ms Isabel Serrano Fuster (Madrid, 1952) has been appointed as new president for the Spanish Federation of Family Planning (FPFE), following the organization’s General Assembly which took place last weekend in Madrid.
As a result of this situation, Ms Serrano Fuster will replace Mr Guillermo González Antón in the presidency of the FPFE which has also elected a new board of directors for a four-year period (2008-2012).
Ms Serrano Fuster is an outstanding and renowned specialist in gynaecology, with a solid background in the field of sexual and reproductive health in Spain.
Ms Serrano Fuster is a bachelor in medicine and surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM, 1978), specialist in occupational health (UCM, 1980) and specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology (UCM, 1982), with additional training in sexology for sanitary professionals, epidemiology, research methodology, gender and immigration.
She has been working as a doctor from 1982 in the Youth Health Center of Madrid in recent years.
She is also a member of the Daphne Team, a group of experts in contraception.
For more than 15 years, Ms Serrano Fuster has taken an active part in the executive board of the FPFE and is a current member of the Executive Committee of the International Planned Parenthood Federation – European Network (IPPF-EN).
She is also a contributor to several institutions, scientific societies and non-governmental organizations.
Additionally, Ms Serrano Fuster often participates in several media. What is more, she is the author of several articles and features as well as publications related to her speciality.
Ms Serrano Fuster is the author of numerous publications about sexuality and contraception. Her books include:
- 'Sex with consent for young people' (Editorial Síntesis, 2007)
- 'Immigrant youth in Spain: Sexual behaviours and proposals for the prevention of risks' (INJUVE, 2007).
Additionally, she is co-author of the publication 'Evolution of contraception in Spain: Society, Health and Media' (Equipo Daphne, 2006).
