The Spanish Federation of Family Planning, our Member Association, received the 'Ana Tutor' prize in the category 'Social Initiatives' that the Socialist Party of Madrid (PSM-PSOE) awards annually.
The prize is for individuals and organizations that work for gender equality.
The ceremony took place on 12 February 2008 at 7pm in the Salones Orfeo, in Madrid.
“The Federation has been both a witness and an active actor in the changes operated in the fields of health policies, demands for the fulfilment of sexual and reproductive rights, and has taking active part in the defense of the autonomy and freedom of women in their right to choose on their own bodies and health, always with the goal of reaching the dignity of individuals based upon their own rights”, FPFE President Guillermo González said.
“This Ana Tutor Prize confirms the Federation’s positioning as a qualified referent in the field of sexual and reproductive health in our country”, Mr González said.
Mr González demanded “the legal protection of a law of sexual and reproductive health which should guarantee formal sexual education to children, teenagers and young people as a fundamental basis to avoid gender inequalities and, among other consequences, violence against women”.
Mr González requested that such a law should facilitate “simple, easy, free access to contraceptive methods, basically to those individuals and social groups who are more vulnerable to risks, thus avoiding, among other things, unwanted pregnancies”.
He concluded by saying that under the new law “women’s dignity will never again be questioned by individuals and social groups that, placing themselves as holders of universal, indisputable morals, can stamp on women’s rights to control their will to bring children to the world”.
Founded in 1987, the Spanish Federation of Family Planning will receive this award at the 20th anniversary of working for the fulfilment of sexual and reproductive rights in Spain.
