XVIII International AIDS Conference

18 - 23 July 2010, Vienna, Austria

Logo IPPF at AIDS 2010

This is the largest gathering of individuals involved in the response to HIV and is a chance to assess where we are, evaluate recent scientific developments and lessons learnt, and collectively chart a course forward.

Under the theme Rights Here, Right Now, AIDS 2010 will be an opportunity to highlight the critical connection between human rights and HIV.  For more information about AIDS 2010: www.aids2010.org.

IPPF will have a strong presence in Vienna with over 80 participants from Member Associations, Regional Offices and Central Office.

Competencies workshop

Prior to the International AIDS Conference, IPPF is holding the 7th HIV competencies workshop in Vienna from 13-16 July 2010, to recharge our commitment to HIV and to build the capacity and competency of all 6 Regional Offices and the 22 global HIV focus Member Associations.

Expert consultation

IPPF has organized an expert consultation on stigma indicators on 17 July 2010 with participants from key civil society organizations and partners at the regional and national level.

The consultation will deepen discussions and contribute towards building consensus on the key recommendations for the development, application and advocacy of stigma indicators.

AIDS 2010 activities

During AIDS 2010, IPPF is involved in a wide range of activities and events throughout the conference, including satellite sessions, oral abstract sessions, workshops, poster presentations, and Global Village activities. A summary of IPPF activities at the conference is available below.

Exhibition booth

Tried and appliedIPPF’s exhibition booth in the main exhibition hall will have 2 themes.

For the first half of the conference, the theme of IPPF’s booth will be 'Tried and applied: discover how we use evidence-informed advocacy and services to link HIV with sexual and reproductive health'.

This will highlight IPPF’s efforts to scale up links between sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV and research to strengthen the evidence base.

Criminalise hate not HIV'Criminalize hate, not HIV' will be the theme during the second half of the conference. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the criminalization of HIV transmission and how this impacts efforts in reducing stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV and other key populations thought to be at high risk.

Photo exhibition

ExposuresThroughout the conference, IPPF is showcasing 'Exposures – Lives lived in the shadows and light of an epidemic'. This photo exhibition highlights the work of IPPF Japan Trust Fund for HIV and AIDS and brings into focus some of the human faces and stories behind the often alarming HIV statistics in many countries.  It reminds us not only of the collective gains we have made, it also highlights the ongoing formidable challenge posed by stigma and discrimination.

'In a life' publication

In a life'In a life', a publication of the real-life stories reflecting IPPF’s core values in linking sexual and reproductive health and HIV, will be launched in Vienna. 'In a life' highlights how our work – shaped and pioneered by the efforts of thousands of committed staff, volunteers and partners – is having a real impact on the lives of people the world over.

Young people

Healthy, Happy and Hot20 young people from across the Federation will be in Vienna for the youth pre-conference and the youth programme at the Conference www.youthaids2010.org

As well as being involved in sessions on the sexual and reproductive health and HIV needs of young people, they will be promoting Healthy, Happy and Hot arguing that all young people – including those living with HIV – have the right to a ‘healthy, happy and hot’ sexual and reproductive life. This will be the focus of the IPPF youth participation in a human rights and HIV march through the streets of Vienna on Tuesday, 20 July 2010.
