Today, 17 May 2011, marks the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
The significance of 17 May 2011 is that it is the anniversary of WHO’s decision to remove homosexuality from its list of mental disorders in 1990.
Homophobia and transphobia have a profound impact on many aspects of the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people around the world, including their sexual and reproductive health.
Across IPPF, there are many examples of IPPF Member Associations reaching out to men who have sex with men (MSM) and other LGBT people in an effort to more effectively meet their sexual and reproductive health (SRH), HIV and other health needs.
To mark this day, some of these outstanding examples are highlighted on the HIV team blog.
