Red Ribbon Award 2008

Mashhad Positive Club, Iran


Mashhad Positive Club (Hamyaran Mosbat Shargh) is a joint programme of the Ministry of Health Center for Disease Control, UNAIDS, Federation of Youth Health and the Family Planning Association of Iran.

Our Innovation Fund helped support this HIV project in Iran, which has been awarded the Red Ribbon Award.

Mashhad Positive Club has been selected as a 'Winner of the Red Ribbon Award (2008)', presented every two years at the International AIDS Conference.

The award is to honour and celebrate outstanding community initiatives that show leadership in reducing the spread and impact of AIDS.

This award is a joint effort of the UNAIDS family together with the Leadership and Community Programme Committees of the XVIIth International AIDS Conference.

Mashhad Positive Club was chosen from over 560 organizations around the world, by the Technical Review Committee, who regard the action and leadership of Hamyaran Mosbat exceptional in terms of:

  • sustainability and adaptability
  • impact
  • innovation
  • empowerment
  • involvement of People Living with HIV
  • strategic partnerships

The public announcement of the winning organizations will be made during the UN General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS (UNGASS) on June 11, 2008.

This is the first time this international award has been presented to an organization from Iran.
