Although female genital mutilation (FGM) has been outlawed since 1992 in Cote d'Ivoire this is still ignored in some parts of the country, particulalry the muslim North.
This advocacy project, which is implemented in the Seguela department, aims to reduce the prevalence of FGM from 88% to 50% in this area.
To achieve this it is working closely with community leaders, a local women's rights non-governmental organization (NGO) and the traditional FGM practitioners (exciseuses) to raise awareness about FGM and to ensure that the law is enforced.
