Marriage before the age of 18 is illegal in Ethiopia but in the Amhara region, for example, half of all young women are married by the age of 15.
This reflects and perpetuates gender inequality as well as causing the serious and recurrent health problems associated with early childbearing.
This project is preventing child marriages by:
- advocating for the rights of young people at community level
- establishing innovative mechanisms to identify and act on planned marriages
- providing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services
