IPPF Japan Trust Fund for HIV and reproductive health

Japan Trust FundThe Japan Trust Fund (JTF) was set up by the Government of Japan in partnership with IPPF in 2000.  Its aim is to address the health challenges posed by HIV and sexual and reproductive ill-health in Africa and Asia in a wholly integrated way.  The JTF supports innovative projects which focus on the needs of vulnerable populations – particularly mothers and children.

Initially the fund was used to strengthen Member Associations’ ability to deliver HIV services as part of their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programmes.  More recently, it has promoted projects aimed at transforming the lives of people most vulnerable to HIV.  Former refugees in Rwanda, mothers in Palestine, construction workers in Thailand and Laos, women living with HIV in Cameroon:  these are some of the marginalised communities which Member Associations have supported thanks to the backing of the JTF.

The Government of Japan was far-sighted and visionary in initiating this programme.  The results speak for themselves.  In 2000, IPPF delivered 155,000 HIV-related services.  Ten years later, the corresponding figure was 12million.
