Supporting maternal and child health in Palestine


Improving Reproductive Health and Maternal Child Health Knowledge and Services in Hebron, Tulkarem and Gaza Districts


This is a JTF project which began in 2008 and has been extended to 2015


The project takes in a diverse range of locations from urban areas ...


... to small surrounding villages ...


... and reaches out to Bedouin and nomadic communities.


Work takes place in established small-scale facilities ...


...  ad hoc, wherever space can be made available ...


... in basic mobile facilities in hard-to-reach communities ...


... and in family homes


Activity involves workshops for women on maternal and child health


Workshops for men on contraception


Individual consultations on maternal health


Couples counselling on contraception


Regular child health clinics ...


... and individual obstetrics consultations

Project outcomes in 2010
Gynaecological care: 8,013 women
Home visits: 502 pregnant women
Child health: 6,665 check-ups

The project gave mothers and their children access to essential services

Project outcomes in 2010
Family planning: 8,467 women
STI treatment: 3,486 people
10,580 male condoms distributed

And established a platform for further improving  sexual and reproductive health provision in Palestine.


And for the women and children involved, it delivered lasting health benefits
