Member Association: Japan

As the main family planning organization, the Family Planning Federation of Japan (FPFJ) is in the forefront of providing information and services and in leading the pro-choice movement.

The work of FPFJ includes:

  • advocating for the concept of sexual and reproductive health and rights and family planning as a basic human right
  • training family planning workers
  • developing information, education and communication (IEC) materials

We have pioneered work with adolescents - we have been providing clinic facilities and an information hotline service since 1982 which became so popular that it was known as the "Open House".

The government  recognized it as a model clinic and started replicating the service in other parts of the country.

Recently, in co-operation with a women's self-help group for infertility, FPFJ established a hotline telephone service on infertility problems.
