The China Family Planning Association (CFPA) plays a very important role in China's family planning programme.
It supports the present family planning policy of the government, which is appropriate for the present national situation, and duly reflects the needs and opinions of the people to the government so as to protect their legal rights. Its programmes have been well received by the people, and financially supported by the government.
The association provides people of reproductive age with information on family planning, maternal and child health, healthier childbearing and childrearing.
A rise in sterility among Chinese males affecting up to one in eight couples is being blamed on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pollution and smoking. The prevention of AIDS and STD's are a major focus for the association.
The CFPA's target audience is women of reproductive age in economically less developed areas. These women lack both the knowledge and the skills to improve their status.
