The Family Planning Association (FPA) of the Islamic Republic of Iran was established in 1995.
The strategy of FPA Iran has been to complement rather than duplicate the well-established government health services.
This has been achieved by focusing on the provision of information, and mobilizing support for reproductive health, including family planning, among religious and political leaders and the public.
This has involved:
- advocacy through seminars
- raising the profile of the FPA through publicity materials and publications, such as the Family Health Journal
- campaigns to strengthen the membership base of the Association
We are currently involved in two qualitative research projects. The first is assessing the quality of care in government health units providing family planning services and the second is investigating the reproductive health needs of adolescents in Iran.
