Rutgers Nisso Groep, the Dutch Expert Centre on Sexuality, is dedicated to promoting sexual and reproductive health, both in the Netherlands and in other countries.
Clear, reliable information on sexuality is important in this respect.
Rutgers Nisso Groep contributes to the improvement of education, prevention, counselling and policy by gathering and disseminating knowledge.
We do this by conducting scientific research and developing practical and applicable services and products for various target groups, such as teaching packages, websites, books and brochures.
The Rutgers Nisso Groep fulfils other tasks such as organising the disciplinary education courses for first time youth sex offenders, or training for health care professionals.
Rutgers Nisso Groep stands for:
- equal sexual treatment
- the protection and improvement of sexual and reproductive health and rights
- emancipation of special groups
Rutgers Nisso Groep was established in 1999 as the result of a fusion between Rutgers Stichting (1969) and Nisso (1967). This combination of a diverse group of disciplines and expertise regarding sexuality issues means that Rutgers Nisso Groep is an expert centre on sexuality.
The projects of Rutgers Nisso Groep are organised in six programmes:
- The Epidemiology and Monitoring Programme provides insight into the nature and scope of sexual issues in the Netherlands and follows changes in sexual health and sexual health care use in the course of time.
- The Sexuality Education Programme focuses mainly on preventive interventions.
- The Sexological Health Care Programme focuses on improving health care in the areas of sexuality and reproductive health.
- The Reproductive Health Programme and the Sexual Violence Programme are dedicated to two themes that have a great deal of our attention.
- The International Programme Youth Incentives offers support to governmental and non-governmental organizations in improving the sexual and reproductive health of young people, mainly in developing countries and countries in transition.
Throughout these six programmes, special attention goes out to certain target groups and themes.
We work with other non-governmental organizations, such as the AIDS Foundation, STD Foundation and World Population Foundation.
