Rahnuma - Family Planning Association of Pakistan (Rahnuma-FPAP), is the largest non-governmental organization (NGO) in the social sector and along with the government, is the key provider of family planning services in Pakistan.

FPAP has successfully evolved since its foundation in 1953, to incorporate a broad-based strategy of integrating family planning into overall national development. It re-emerged from FPAP to Rahunama - FPAP in 2005 to reflect its holistic approach to development. (Rahunama is an Urdu word for one, who shows the path and provides direction).

Our Vision:

Rahunama - FPAP to lead a right based movement using the ICPD holistic development paradigm which strengthens family well being, enables empowerment of women, supports youth and protects children.

Our Mission:

  • Promoting Family Planning and Sexual and Reproductive Health as a basic human right
  • Providing sustainable and quality sexual and reproductive health and family planning services to men, women and youth in partnership with government, NGOs and civil society
  • Improving the quality of life of the poor and marginalized.

Rahunama - FPAP manages its programs through five regional offices (in Provincial and Federal Capitals) and 13 Program Management Offices, with a head-office in Lahore.

Rahunama - FPAP pioneered the concepts of social marketing of contraceptives, family welfare centers and reproductive health services in Pakistan. Rahunama - FPAI has also been conducting numerous researches on sexual and reproductive health and rights issues and was also involved in the clincal trials of Norplant.

Rahunama - FPAP piloted and sustained many innovative programs and campaigns including:

  • Mass Media Activities
  • Mobile Audi-Visual Van
  • AIDS awareness programmes through theatre
  • Journal 'Sukhi Ghar'
  • An award-winning programme educating newly married couples
  • Girl Child Program.

Our sexual and reproductive service delivery network includes 11 state-of-the-art Family Health Hospitals and a huge network of Family Health Clinics across the country besides mobile services.

We have successfully built new networks with other organizations and groups such as the Ministry ofPopulation Welfare, Ministry of Health, Armed Forces, private practitioners and other NGOs. We organize advocacy events, educational workshops abd skills training to leverage support for sexual and reproductive health and rights and for the development and empowerment of marginalized communities.
