PRO-FAMILIA pioneered family planning services in Puerto Rico as well as in the Western Hemisphere Region. 

Our primary goal is to provide medical and educational family planning services, as well as to promote sex education in public schools.

To reach this goal, PRO-FAMILIA maintains a modern family planning service centre, where we provide educational and medical services for low income people. 

We also have agreements with the municipal government to provide information and contraceptive methods through private doctors.

Since 1989, PRO-FAMILIA has successfully maintained a telephone service which allows young people to get information about:

• sexuality
• contraception
• AIDS
• unwanted pregnancies

We provide educational services on sexuality for adolescents and training workshops for professionals and community leaders.

We have two projects on peer counselling for sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS prevention for adolescents.

PRO-FAMILIA obtains local funding through the sale of educational and medical services and contracts with public and private agencies.
