The Societatea de Educatie Contraceptiva si Sexuala, the Romanian family planning association, was founded in 1990, at an early stage in the transition of the country from totalitarian rule towards democracy.
We are a pioneer in promoting family planning and sex education.
We have focused our activities on bringing about public awareness of women's reproductive health rights, and in advocating service delivery standards to the relevant authorities, through model clinics, and by training health personnel.
Societatea de Educatie Contraceptiva si Sexuala also promotes sex education through training seminars for teachers, and produces material for schools and for marginalized young people in informal settings.
The majority of our members are under 26 years old and we are recognised as a national youth organization by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, from which we have received funding.
On the basis of materials received from different European Family Planning Associations, we have developed an information, education and communication (IEC) project jointly supported by the Ministry of Health, Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) and the Austrian and German family planning associations.
