The Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA), has been accorded a leading role with the Ministry of Health in implementing the National Population Policy.
We have jointly embarked upon a five-year Population Education and Youth Family Life Campaign. The government supports SIPPA through the provision of resources for seminars, laboratory services, transport and delivery of imported goods.
SIPPA provides family planning and related services through its clinics, community-based distribution activities and integrated health activities.
We work to develop a positive awareness of population related issues and family planning information, through targetting-specific radio programmes broadcast throughout the country.
We train primary school teachers in family life education and provide family planning education for special target groups.
Since 1991 the community based distribution of contraceptives, especially condoms, has been expanded and will continue to do so in the provinces of:
- Malaita
- Western Choiseul
- Central Islands
- Makira
- Rennel
- Bellona
SIPPA is renowned throughout the Solomon Islands for this pioneering rural outreach project.
SIPPA have noted the increased number of clients attending our clinics and also an increased demand for condoms.
Demand was so great that on one occaision we briefly ran out of stock.
