Member Association: Thailand

The Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) supports the National Family Planning Programme by organizing educational and motivational activities, and providing contraceptive service delivery to special target groups.

We expand the coverage and accessibility of family planning services by using different innovative and self-reliant approaches.

We respond to the need for specialized services for specific groups or geographic areas, such as the hilltribes in the north, the population along the Thai-Cambodia border and slum communities in the cities.

With the help of Muslim leaders and the use of grassroots volunteers, we have succeeded in promoting family planning to the marginalized Muslim community in Thailand's four southernmost provinces.

Another of PPAT's successful programmes is our Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Project.

Our radio and television broadcasts on family planning, HIV/sexually transmitted infections (STIs), reproductive health and environmental issues are estimated to have reached seven million people across the country.

In the past, successful IEC projects for prisoners and fishing folk have been implemented by PPAT, and have encouraged the relevant government departments to initiate similar activities, which have been sustained in the long-run by government funding.

We started our University Students' Network for AIDS Prevention project in the early 1990's. The target audience is students aged between 15 - 22 in 19 public and private universities.

We aim to equip them with sufficient knowledge about AIDS to enable them to disseminate information on the issue to their peers, through organized activities:

  • special lectures
  • exhibitions
  • debates
  • poster contests
  • marches
