Wondimagne's story

Being a volunteer in Ethiopia

Wondimagne

"I became an agent because I think that it will improve people’s lives and I like being a pioneer and leader in my community.

When I first started I got a negative reaction from my community, people said Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia were baby killers.  I told people my life is better since I started practising family planning and now people in my village see me as an example to follow as they see the benefits.”

Community Based Distribution (CBD) agents like Wondimagne bring clients from their villages to the family planning clinic.

He encourages them to come by giving information, education and providing communications activities and motivational work during the week in the village.

This involves visiting people in their homes and talking about their health, their families and how better reproductive health and family planning could improve their quality of life.

The small town of Wondogonet is located in one of the most fertile regions of Ethiopia, with lush green countryside. The Community Based Distribution (CBD) point is run from the government clinic every two weeks to coincide with the Saturday market.
