The South Asia Region covers 9 countries, including some of the most populous countries in the world, and operates nearly 19,000 service points.

 

Service delivery in the South Asia Region in 2011: 7.7 million contraceptive services 33.9 million condoms distributed 7.1 million services provided to young people 1.7 million HIV-related services 255,000 abortion-related services Special initiatives to increase access to services and promote sexual and reproductive rights: The Family Planning Association of Bangladesh volunteers operate a door-to-door sexual health advice and referral service in hard-to-reach areas, and is promoting peer education in conservative religious schools The Family Planning Association of India trained 70 health personnel in community health centres in safe abortion care services, a pilot project that shows potential for large-scale expansion The Family Planning Association of Nepal trained 150 pharmacists to discuss unwanted pregnancy and abortion with clients and to refer them to high quality service providers, for maternity care or abortion services To learn more about our work in South Asia, visit the South Asia Region website at www.ippfsar.org
