Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, Association HERA XXI is a women’s rights organization working from the feminist perspective. It has been actively working in the fields of healthcare, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender equality since 1998. HERA XXI offers comprehensive education to vulnerable societal groups, makes quality SRHR services more accessible, promotes development of institutions of volunteerism and activism and enhances strengthening and engagement of youth and community groups. Evidence-based advocacy, partnerships, awareness-raising, and results-oriented monitoring are essential approaches for achieving HERA XXI’s programmatic goals. Advocacy The Association contributes to the improvement of the political, social and economic environment of the country by promoting universal access to sexual and reproductive health services, maternal health, comprehensive education on reproductive health and healthy lifestyles, improving legal environment of children’s rights in terms of SRHR, advocating youth policies at local, national and international levels, and increasing readiness and awareness of decision-makers regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights.

With information and counselling services, pro familia wants to contribute to women, men and young people being able to live their sexuality and sexual orientation in a self-determined way, to parenthood being a free decision and to a satisfying sexual life without fear of unwanted pregnancies or sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, and to people being able to participate in scientific progress. The services offered in the 180 counselling centres nationwide include counselling, information and age-appropriate sex education on partnership, sexuality, sexual orientation, contraception, pregnancy, family, unfulfilled desire to have children and reproductive medicine, prenatal diagnostics, birth, financial support, unwanted pregnancy as well as separation and divorce. Pro familia publishes information brochures for clients and specialist publications for doctors, counsellors and educators, organises specialist conferences, lobbies for sexual and reproductive health and rights and offers a wide range of further and advanced training. In the field of sexual education, it is committed to human rights education.

The Israel Family Planning Association (IFPA) is Israel's leading organization advancing the human right to sexual health. 'Open Door' is a national network consisting of 14 information, counselling and treatment centres. The centres deal with issues of adolescence, such as intimacy, love, prevention of sexual violence, and healthy and responsible sexual behaviour. They serve as open and safe places for young people, in particular at-risk individuals. 'Open Door' serves Jews and Arabs, secular and religious, native Israelis and new immigrants, in a variety of languages and with cultural sensitivity. It provides accessibility to individuals with disabilities. The service providers are mostly volunteers who have completed special training and certification. Their work is monitored and guided appropriately. 'Open Door' centres uniquely adapted for the Arab society are active in Nazareth, Haifa, Be'er Sheva, and Umm Al-Fahem. 'Open Door' is included in the World Health Organization (WHO) list of best preventative practices for youth in the world. For over a decade, IFPA has been operating a unique and comprehensive certification service for professionals from the Arab sector as sex educators. More than a thousand graduates of this certification programme promote and disseminate information and counselling on sexual health to young people, parents and teachers. IFPA runs a national centre which offers a comprehensive, 300-hour certification programme for sex educators. It has so far trained over 2000 professionals. The centre also offers an International Innovation Award for the leading sex educator certification programme for individuals with physical or sensory disabilities. There are additional courses and continuing education activities for different groups of the population, tailored to suit the target audience and its needs. IFPA operates a community outreach centre which organizes workshops, lectures, and seminars for all sectors of the population on topics of education and the promotion of healthy sexuality, in Hebrew, Arabic, Russian and Amharic. These take place in schools, schools, universities and the army and in absorption, youth, women’s, community, and welfare centres and centres for individuals with disabilities. A unique project, Empowering Specially-Enlisted Women Soldiers (Hagam), offers workshops for young vulnerable women, preparing them for life and social integration.  In the past 5 years, aided by this initiative, 4500 specially-enlisted young women soldiers successfully completed full army service. The Information Center provides access to continuously updated professional information, in topics related to healthy sex, in Hebrew, English, Arabic, and Russian.  The information in our extensive database is unparalleled anywhere in Israel, and includes lesson plans, instructional videos, presentations, group activities, and more.  

The Kazakhstan Association for Sexual and Reproductive Health (KMPA) was established in 1996. In 2002 KMPA became a full Member Association of IPPF. The organization currently has 9 branches and 4 regional offices in Almaty, Kostanay, Shymkent and Nur-Sultan. In total, there are 13 branches of KMPA. The organization’s activity is based on protecting the right of youth, men, and women to quality medical services and information in the field of sexual and reproductive health (SRH). KMPA conducts training of youth to prevent underage pregnancy, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. In addition, KMPA implements projects on family planning and promoting contraceptive methods to prevent unintended pregnancies. KMPA focuses on the following goals: (1) advocacy of sexual and reproductive rights; (2) elimination of unsafe abortion; (3) promoting condom use to prevent HIV/AIDS and decreasing stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS; (4) educating youth and teenagers on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) to allow choice and safe relations; (5) advocating for access to SRH services; (6) training healthcare professionals on family planning, contraception, safe abortion, antenatal care and consultation skills; and (7) training of teachers on SRHR, CSE, prevention of SGBV and promoting gender equality. KMPA seeks to improve the reproductive health of the population of Kazakhstan, especially the socially vulnerable, the poor, and young people, by protecting the basic reproductive rights of women, men, and young people, ensuring free and informed choices regarding SRH, providing comprehensive sexual education and high-quality information, and promoting access to SRH services. KMPA bases its activities on the principles of gender equality, freedom of decision-making and voluntary participation.

The Reproductive Health Alliance Kyrgyzstan (RHAK) was set up in 2001, and its services now extend across all 7 regions of the Kyrgyz Republic (Osh, Jalal-Abad, Talas, Chui, Naryn, Batken, Issyk-Kul). From its inception, RHAK has enjoyed strong youth support and input into its organization, policy-making and delivery. As a result, its youth work is a distinctive strength. RHAK has developed information materials for adolescents which cover critical sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues such as contraception and the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs, including HIV and AIDS). A significant contingent of national and international trainers have been involved in training health professionals and volunteers who’ve subsequently trained groups of all sorts in SRH. Particular interest groups include refugees and internal migrants, injecting drug users (IDUs), sex workers, children in care and homeless children. RHAK is an active member of collaborative, central Asian initiatives to address the particular SRH needs and challenges of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and repatriates. This work has included the publication and circulation of a substantial range of written materials, and the creation of 3 clinics located expressly to serve migrant communities. The Latvian Association for Family Planning & Sexual Health (LAFPSH) focuses on information, education and training activities for health personnel and the general public, and sex education for teachers and young people. The organization has a highly active youth group which runs a safer sex campaign (in conjunction with national media). The group also publishes an advice section in a major youth magazine dealing with problems relating to (for example) puberty, relationships, contraceptives and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It operates a telephone helpline which is run by young people, for young people. More broadly, LAFPSH runs seminars and workshops on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) concerns such as sexuality and people with disability, gender-based violence and menopause. LAFPSH has significant influence as an advocate at government level, and has been closely involved in developing the national reproductive health programme. This is reflected in the organization’s active programme of information, education and communication (IEC) in conjunction with the Latvian Teachers Association. It has led to the training of over a 1,000 teachers in sex education. A project jointly supported by the Swedish Family Planning Association and the European Commission has enabled LAFPSH to produce and disseminate high quality materials on STIs, condoms and sex education.
