On Tuesday, IPPF took South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka – known as the Princess of Africa – to some of its projects just outside of the Ethiopian capital.
She met young people and members of vulnerable groups – dancing at some of the venues and spending time hearing how IPPF, through its member association Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE), works with women and girls to deliver sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Ms Chaka Chaka told CNN: “Family Planning is linked to all aspects of development. It enables people. It helps them decide their own fate. Give people choices and many more will be able to live happily, freely and healthily.”
At a news conference about her trip to Adama at the FGAE on Wednesday she added her support for IPPF’s community-based approach to sexual and reproductive health and rights and told journalists how the federation’s work had moved her.
