The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) cover more than 40% of the world’s population. Cooperation between BRICS countries offers opportunities to share national challenges, approaches and learnings around sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment. IPPF has been working with the BRICS governments in support of a seminar series for officials and experts on population and development issues.
The Centro Paraguayo de Estudios de Poblacion (CEPEP) delivers high quality family planning services right across the country from clinics which are networked with government clinics, other agencies, and hundreds of private physicians. The services cover maternal and child care, uterine and breast cancer prevention, colposccopy, PAP smears, and diagnostic facilities such as sonography and laboratory testing.
The Cyprus Family Planning Association (CFPA) was founded in 1971 and became an IPPF Member Association in 1972. It runs a family planning clinic in Nicosia, providing a range of services, including HIV and AIDS testing. The facility draws on the help of a number of volunteer gynaecologists. Hundreds of young people provide peer group counselling, and also run a telephone helpline and workshops on sex education and sexuality awareness on a voluntary basis.
The China Family Planning Association (CFPA) plays an important role in providing information and education and promoting voluntary family planning in China. Thanks to its millions of volunteers throughout the country, CFPA provides Chinese people with family planning, maternal and child health, healthier childbearing and adolescent sexual and reproductive health, both information and services.
The announcement by China to end its one-child policy is a huge step forward in recognizing sexual and reproductive health for all of its citizens, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) said today.
IPPF has been working with China through an emerging countries initiative Brazil, Russian Federation, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) on population matters and through its Member Association, China Family Planning Association(CFPA).
