The European Network comprises 41 Member Associations in Europe and Central Asia, encompassing the EU, EU accession states and the whole of Russia. There is an immense diversity of need. European Network members are engaged in determined advocacy to challenge the denial of basic sexual rights. They’re fighting for justice for marginalized groups, they’re fighting to expand access to services and young people play an active role in advocacy and outreach.

Service delivery in the European Network in 2011:

  • 300,000 contraceptive services
  • 1.7 million condoms distributed
  • 785,000 services provided to young people
  • 165,000 HIV-related services
  • 95,000 abortion-related services

A few examples of special initiatives to empower individuals to realize their sexual and reproductive rights:

  • In Romania, the Societatea de Educatie Contraceptiva si Sexuala (SECS) trained over 1,500 urban outreach workers from medical and social sector partner agencies on promoting contraceptive use through a rights-based framework
  • Association XY, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is working with government agencies to prevent human trafficking for sexual exploitation
  • In Macedonia, HERA's mobile outreach teams are providing urgently-needed HIV testing and treatment in hard-to-reach communities
  • The French and Spanish Member Associations have successfully campaigned for the liberalization of restrictive abortion laws
