The Charter will build on the sexual rights declaration and other Federation policy to explicitly state a set of core values statements that MA’s and the Secretariat will inform, endorse and sign.
The Charter will act as a Southern star and as guard rails for our Federation’s integrity. They will provide the central core on which to build a Federation partnership brand that adds to MAs individual identity and will bring weight to existing systems such as accreditation. The Charter will include statements that better define IPPF’s solidarity and support to stigmatized issues that disproportionately impact the people who rely on us to deliver. Although the content will arrive in the process of deeper consultation, it’s ambition is to be faithful to Strategy 2028. The process will include robust dialogue, and we recognize that this will be both challenging and rewarding. We will approach this in good faith and with generosity; and we will approach it with a commitment that goes beyond organizational architecture and closer to the lived realities of the communities we work with. The charter will be signed by all members (and the Secretariat) whether grant receiving or not. It doesn’t replace policy, accreditation standards or outline benefits of membership but summarises the core values that lie at the core of the Federation. It does not replace finance agreements or other documents that detail contractual obligations.
Timing and pathways
To be successful, the Charter and the re-branding need to ride the momentum created by the approval of the new strategy and the General Assembly. It needs to start immediately, optimizing the opportunity provided by having so many key members in Bogota and build on the energy and dialogue that will come from the 70th (‘platinum’) anniversary celebrations. And it needs a strong mandate from the General Assembly. We believe the charter and the rebrand are so fundamental to IPPF identity and strategy that – while guided by the Board - they will require a strong mandate from this General Assembly in November to progress and come back for final GA approval.
