IPPF is looking for an intern to provide support to IPPF’s work on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). The main task of the internship will be to develop a ‘youth-friendly’ resource which responds to the recently updated United Nations ‘International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education’. The intern will be responsible for drafting a guide for young advocates to understand the Technical Guidance, and to carry out advocacy activities to improve access to high quality CSE.
Main Duties
- Become familiar with the United Nations International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education and draw out the key evidence and guidance which is relevant for young advocates.
- Work with the Technical and Advocacy teams in IPPF to determine the focus of the resource and young people’s needs regarding youth-led advocacy on CSE.
- Liaise with young people within IPPF and through youth-led partner organisations to clarify the scope of the resource and ensure timely review.
- Create a first draft of the resource and share this with youth partners for review and feedback, and update as necessary
- To lead on administrative issues related to the production of the resource, such as organizing design, translation and printing.
- To support additional tasks such as writing blogposts or creating social media content to support the promotion of the resource.
- Undertake other tasks, as required, which are related to IPPF’s work on young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, including access to CSE
- Work within IPPF’s employment policies and procedures.
Person Specification
- Ability to write for a young, global audience – especially young people (under 25) engaged in advocacy campaigns to improve sexuality education. (E)
- Ability to communicate, and work closely with, internal and external stakeholders, contributing to effective team and partnership working (E)
- Ability to understand technical documents and evidence, and to present this in clear, accurate and concise language (E)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (E)
- Excellent IT literacy and social media skills (E)
- Self-motivated, flexible with an ability to plan, manage and prioritise a busy workload (E)
- First-hand knowledge and/or experience of campaigning for high quality sex education, especially beyond UK settings (D)
- Proficiency in Spanish and/or French and/or Arabic (D)
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn about CSE advocacy (E)
- Commitment to improving young people’s understanding of evidence relating to CSE provision (E)
