Empowering the most vulnerable women, men and young people in over 170 countries to access life-saving services and programmes and to live with dignity, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and its 30,000 staff, along with millions of volunteers, campaign for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and deliver education and services through 65,000 service points.

In pursuit of our aim to improve quality of life and ensure all people’s right to enjoy sexual lives free from ill health, unwanted pregnancy, violence and discrimination, we are currently embarking on an ambitious new strategy and in order to achieve one of our priority objectives of ‘enhancing operational effectiveness and double national and global income’, the Director, New Business Development, will lead and inspire the federations global effort.

The role will report to the Director, Programmes and will develop and lead a business development team and a new business development strategy. The new Director will leverage IPPF’s capabilities to win new business opportunities; significantly contributes to IPPF's income targets; win competitive bids to support IPPF’s programme priorities; and help the Federation to deliver on its new Strategic Framework.

With international travel, you will prepare the Federation for tendering, including capacity-building to develop a portfolio of staff to take key roles on restricted funding bids. You have a Degree or equivalent in business administration, social sciences or a related subject, preferably post-graduate. You have a proven track record in successfully developing major restricted project proposals in the international development sector (eight figure sums) through competitive bidding from major bilateral or private donors. A sound understanding of restricted funding and competitive tender processes/ structures and donor requirements in the international development sector is essential. Strong knowledge of donor regulations and interests is required along with proven ability to develop approaches to cost recovery and payment by results. Strong knowledge of development health is essential with SRHR knowledge desirable.

You have excellent written communication skills to write and edit proposals. Excellent staff management and leadership skills including assembling and supporting diverse multi-functional teams of technical specialists in different geographical locations are necessary. Advanced skills in identifying and securing strategic partnerships for competitive tendering along with excellent negotiating skills including the ability to review donor and partner contracts are essential. You must have excellent interpersonal skills to network with contacts for whom English is not the first language.  Fluent English is essential, and a working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic desirable.

Also required are excellent time management skills; strong project management skills including application of programme and project management tools, good IT skills to include Excel, Word and use of databases; and competence in use of logframes. Familiarity with theory of change and value for money tools and approaches is desirable. Attention to detail is essential. Additionally you are committed to cross-team working; have the ability to maintain an appropriate level of information sharing/confidentiality to protect IPPF’s commercial interests; and have sound judgement to identify and escalate response to potential risks to IPPF.
