Established in 2006 and hosted by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in London, the Safe Abortion Action Fund (SAAF) is a multi-donor funding mechanism that provides restricted grants to nationally-based organisations that provide safe abortion services, advocate for progressive laws and policies, break the silence and try to change attitudes about abortion. The Financial Management Adviser is responsible for providing financial oversight for the programme, ensuring compliance with both donor and IPPF financial management requirements. This includes financial co-ordination and monitoring for the programme, provision of capacity building training for grantees, and donor reporting.

 

The postholder will contribute, in conjunction with the SAAF programme team, to achieving the programme’s overall aim of supporting innovative and strategic NGO activities to expand access to safe abortion for poor, vulnerable and hard to reach women and girls.  

 

The successful candidate will be at least a part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA), with experience in financial control systems and audit, and strong experience in budgeting and financial analysis. Experience of international development issues and/or project implementation and monitoring as well as working in finance in developing countries is required. They will also have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to convey complex financial information in an easily understandable form to non-financial staff. Strong analytical skills, knowledge of financial reporting systems and excellent IT skills are also required.
