IPPF saddened by death of Honorary Treasurer John Tangi

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is very sad to announce the death of its Honorary Treasurer, John Tangi.

Mr Tangi had been Honorary Treasurer since November 2017 and was also Chairperson of IPPF’s East and South East Asia and Oceania Region (ESEAOR).

John Tangi had a life-long commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights. He was a passionate IPPF volunteer, having served the Cook Islands Family Welfare Association (CIFWA) in various capacities, the most recent being the Chair of CIFWA’s National Council.

He was also a distinguished Member of the Parliament representing the Tupapa-Maraerenga constituency.  He was elected Acting Speaker of the Parliament in 2010 and became the Clerk of Parliament from September 2013 up to the time of his death.

IPPF’s President, Rana Abu Ghazaleh said:

“John was a wonderful champion to the world of sexual and reproductive health and rights and to his home in the Cook Islands and beyond. His life was one of service and his passing is a huge loss. The thoughts of the whole Federation are with his family at this very sad time.”
