Suzanne Veldhuis is a general physician who graduated from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She holds a Master of Science in Rural Development and Natural Resources and a PhD in Ecology and Sustainable Development from the Department of Health at the Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR). 

Originally from the Netherlands, she has lived in Chiapas, Mexico, since 2012. With over ten years of experience in clinical and research projects related to sexual and reproductive health and safe abortion in Mexico, she is the co-founder and co-coordinator of the Red de Médicas por el Derecho a Decidir México (Network of Female Pro-choice Physicians Mexico) and the co-founder and president of the non-governmental organization "Ixchel: Acompañamiento en Salud" (Ixchel: Accompaniment in Health), for which she was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship. Additionally, she serves as a medical supervisor and researcher with Women on Web. 

She has (co)authored several international scientific articles and coordinated the publication of the books "Realidades y retos del aborto con medicamentos en México" (Realities and challenges of medication abortion in Mexico) and "Puedo ser parte de la lucha: personal médico en la lucha por el aborto seguro en Latinoamérica" (I can be part of the change: physicians in the fight for safe abortion in Latin America). Her specialization lies in autonomous abortion, feminist accompaniment, and its connection with the medical sector.
