Although female genital mutilation rates are decreasing, and there is increasing recognition among global, regional, local and grassroots stakeholders of the need to encourage its abandonment, women and girls around the world continue to undergo this practice, experiencing grave consequences to their mental and physical health, including their sexual and reproductive health.
