Reproductive & Family Health Association of Fiji
The Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji (RFHAF) was inaugurated in June 1996. It has played a key role in shaping national family planning policy and in promoting sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education, particularly among young people and communities in which myths about the dangers of family planning prevail. The use of contraceptives is still believed by many to cause cancer and immature childbirth. RFHAF has also undertaken concerted national advocacy work (with a particular emphasis on HIV and AIDS) through its involvement with the National Advisory Committee on AIDS and the country co-ordinating mechanism. As such, it played a critical role in securing the HIV Prevention and Treatment Decree which outlaws discrimination, promotes counselling, testing and reporting, assures confidentiality, and legislates on the supply of blood products. The organization’s committed promotion of wider awareness of SRH issues is changing attitudes, and as attitudes change, uptake of services increase. Sex og Politikk - The Norwegian Association for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
Sex og Politikk - The Norwegian Association for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, consists of affiliated organizations, institutions and individual members. Sex og Politikk was founded in 1969 and since its establishment been essential in the promotion of sexuality education in Norway, as well as securing access to safe contraceptives. Several of the organization's founding members were central in the work leading up to the law on abortion. The organisation works for the development of better health care services, and to safeguard rights linked to sexuality and reproductive health, both in a national and international context. These areas are very important in strengthening women's rights and also for working towards gender equality and poverty reduction internationally. Political advocacy and informational events focusing on SRHR with a South perspective is therefore essential to our work. In Norway, Sex og Politikk offers a sexuality education programme "Uke Sex" for students, in addition to informing the general public about the importance of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and to highlight the challenges many people have when it comes to this controversial field.
