Lebanese Association for Family Health
The Lebanese Association for Family Health “SALAMA” was founded in 2008 (26 Nov 2008) under the Statement of Registration No. 1740. It is a member association of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) which is the largest voluntary non-governmental organization in the world, working on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) issues and advocating for them. Vision: All people in Lebanon are able to make informed choices regarding their sexual and reproductive health and rights SRHR in a society free of discrimination. Mission: SALAMA advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights SRHR, promotes and provides high quality services, and raises awareness for all groups in the society, particularly the under-served and marginalized. SALAMA seeks to improve the quality of life of individuals and to ensure the community development through the following objectives: 1. Gain Support of decision makers and champions to modify, approve and activate laws and develop national strategies related to SRHR issues. 2. Strengthen partnerships with non- governmental and private organizations, women and youth groups, and champions to advocate for SRHR. 3. Empower youth on comprehensive sexuality education CSE in order to fulfill their sexual and reproductive rights. 4. Increase awareness of community and individuals on SRHR issues, stressing on engaging champions, intellectuals and media. 5. Provide high-quality SRH services, particularly to the marginalized and displaced people. 6. Enable SRH services especially to the marginalized and displaced people through other stakeholders. 7. Enhance the effectiveness of the association and mobilize resources. 8. Expand the volunteers and activists base and enhance their capacities. SLPPA aims to promote family welfare and reduce the incidence of unwanted pregnancies, particularly among adolescents, through a strengthened family life education programme and quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care services which complement government provision. SLPPA's strategy consists of heightening the awareness of population and development issues. It provides quality contraceptive and reproductive health services in both clinical and non-clinical environments, both through independent outlets and in partnership with health authoritiy facilities. It has 1 permanent and 1 associated clinic, and is linked with 38 government and 14 private centres. It manages a 313-strong community-based distributor (CBD) network. The organization has an industrial programme which provides information and services direct to workforces in a number of locations, and it conducts national education via lectures, media discussions, input into popular TV drama, the production of videos and counselling. SLPPA is an associate member of an umbrella organization known as the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation Ltd (CFPA). The Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA) is the only regional non-governmental organization (NGO) devoted to family planning and sexual and reproductive health in the Caribbean. CFPA serves 13 island Member Associations and 5 Associate Member Associations in the Caribbean, Central and South America. It supports these Associations with technical assistance and materials, and represents their collective interests at IPPF meetings and in the Caribbean region among governments and NGOs. CFPA Member Associations are located in Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Nevis and St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent. CFPA Associate Member Associations are located in Belize, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. The CFPA does not offer any clinical services or distribute family planning methods to clients, but rather focuses its work on governance and institution-building among its Member Associations.
