China Family Planning Association

The China Family Planning Association (CFPA) plays an important role in providing information and education and promoting voluntary family planning in China. Thanks to its millions of volunteers throughout the country, CFPA provides Chinese people with family planning, maternal and child health, healthier childbearing and adolescent sexual and reproductive health, both information and services. The CFPA's main target groups are the vulnerable ones such as women of reproductive age in economically less developed areas, the young people between 10-24 years old, the migrants and the ethnics in the remote areas. These people often lack both the knowledge and the skills to improve their health and status and the access to reproductive health information and education. In recent years, a nationwide 'Reproductive Care Campaign', has been implemented at the grassroot level throughout the country. This campaign benefits millions of ordinary women, men and young people, not only provide information, education and services in reproductive health, but also promote rights awareness. Such contributes towards the building of a harmonious society. Through the Democratic Participation in Society (DPS) Project, CFPA helps to protect the legal rights of Chinese citizens especially in the area of reproductive health.   Website: http://eng.chinafpa.org.cn/

Reproductive & Family Health Association of Fiji

The Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji (RFHAF) was inaugurated in June 1996. It has played a key role in shaping national family planning policy and in promoting sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education, particularly among young people and communities in which myths about the dangers of family planning prevail. The use of contraceptives is still believed by many to cause cancer and immature childbirth. RFHAF has also undertaken concerted national advocacy work (with a particular emphasis on HIV and AIDS) through its involvement with the National Advisory Committee on AIDS and the country co-ordinating mechanism. As such, it played a critical role in securing the HIV Prevention and Treatment Decree which outlaws discrimination, promotes counselling, testing and reporting, assures confidentiality, and legislates on the supply of blood products. The organization’s committed promotion of wider awareness of SRH issues is changing attitudes, and as attitudes change, uptake of services increase. Despite having one of the Pacific's most challenging sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) indicators, the Kiribati Family Health Association (KFHA) has managed to expand the scope and reach of SRHR to those most in need. In the last few years, KFHA has rolled out an exciting array of sexuality education campaigns nationwide, including the successful KFHA Drama Group, which was lauded as a creative approach in the outreach and dissemination of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information. The association is one of the leading NGO on SRHR and also working on GBV. The government of Kiribati, FBOs and the provincial has been working closely with KFHA. This is evident through MoU that was signed by the association with 8 provincial councils enabling them to provide continuous services on SRHR to these provinces. Website: http://www.kfha.org.ki/

Vietnam Family Planning Association

The Vietnam Family Planning Association (VINAFPA) complements and supplements the Vietnamese government’s family planning programme, by providing direct services and information, education and communication (IEC) programmes. Over recent years, the country has experienced falling levels of fertility and reduced maternal and child mortality. VINAFPA has played a vital role in delivering these improvements. The organization runs over 1,350 distinct service points, including: 19 permanent clinics, 21 mobile facilities and a ground force of over 1,200 community-based distributors (CBDs). These CBDs are VINAFPA-trained individuals, living in a particular locality, who distribute supplies and offer advice and information. The intensity and impact of their work is borne out by the numbers. Currently, the unmet need for contraception rate runs at 5%, but VINAFPA is working hard to improve this.

As Vanuatu's pioneering sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) organisation, VFHA is a trusted provider of SRHR services and commodities to the nation of 271,000. It works closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to provide service delivery from its two main clinics, advocating to political and religious leaders and conducting educational campaigns targeting youth and the broader community.   Fifty-eight per cent of the population is below 24-years-old so the needs for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services are significant. Vanuatu has a high static fertility and high teenage fertility rates, rising rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and low rates of contraceptive prevalence. About 76 per cent of the population lives in rural areas, making it difficult and expensive to provide quality reproductive health (RH) The association was also the leading NGO on the provision of SRHR services during the Post Cyclone Winston Response that has devastated the lives of the people of Vanuatu. Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand

The Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT)  supports the National Family Planning Programme by organizing countrywide educational and motivational activities, and by delivering contraceptive services to special target groups/geographic areas including slum dwellers, the population along the Thai-Cambodia border, and northern hill tribes. With the help of Muslim leaders and the support of grassroots volunteers, PPAT has been highly successful in promoting family planning among the marginalized Muslim community in Thailand's 4 southern-most provinces. It has also undertaken individual projects tailored to the needs of prisoners and fishermen. PPAT’s approach to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) promotion has been innovative, and in many cases, the organization’s models have been replicated by government departments and have been sustained with dedicated public funds. PPAT runs a strong programme of information, education and communication (IEC) via radio and television broadcasts on family planning, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), reproductive health and environmental issues. These are estimated to have reached over 10 million people across the country. The organization operates through over 1,900 distinct service points. These include 15 permanent clinics and 8 mobile units, and a network of hundreds of community-based distributors/community-based services (CBDs/CBSs). As the statistics show, Thailand still faces a number of challenges, particularly in relation to maternal and child mortality. But with a confident and active Member Association on hand, the prospects for continued improvement are strong.
