1950年代初頭、「怒りをもって立ち上がれ」のスローガンを掲げた男女が、女性が自分の妊娠・出産をコントロールする権利を求めて声高にキャンペーンを始めました。
家族計画は人権ですが、これまで多くの国や地域で、社会的慣習によって実現を阻まれてきました。今日では当然とされている考え方への賛同を得るために、当時の活動家は大きな敵意に立ち向かいました。投獄される活動家もいる中、文化、伝統、法律、宗教観と向き合いながら、世界中の女性たちの生活向上を目指して活動が続けられました。結果、1952年に開かれた第3回国際家族計画会議において、8カ国の家族計画協会によって国際家族計画連盟（IPPF）が設立されました。
それから69年後、IPPFは129カ国、118の加盟協会と、加盟協会のない13カ国で活動するパートナーを擁する連盟として、140カ国以上で事業を実施しています。2019年には、2億523万件のセクシュアル/リプロダクティブ・ヘルスサービスを提供しました。
組織体制と資金について
IPPF事務局は英国ロンドン本部と6つの地域事務局から構成されます。
- アフリカ地域事務局（ケニア、ナイロビ）
- アラブ地域事務局（チュニジア、チュニス）
- 東・東南アジア・大洋州地域事務局（マレーシア、クアラルンプール）
- 欧州地域事務局（ベルギー、ブリュッセル）
- 南アジア地域事務局（タイ、バンコクとインド、デリー）
- 南北アメリカ・カリブ海地域事務局（コロンビア、トリニダード）
各地域事務局は、所管地域の加盟協会の活動を支援、促進し、コアファンド（IPPF本 部から提供される使途の限定がない資金）を分配します。
IPPF全体の方針は評議委員会によって決められています。
IPPFの活動はボランティア主義に深く根ざしており、何百万人ものボランティアが世界中でIPPFの活動に参加しています。

活動理念

In the early 1950s, a group of women and men started to campaign vociferously and visibly for women’s rights to control their own fertility.
Contraception is as a human right challenged many social conventions. Campaigners faced great hostility to gain acceptance for things that we take for granted today. Some were imprisoned. But they emerged determined to work with different cultures, traditions, laws and religious attitudes to improve the lives of women around the world. And so, at the 3rd International Conference on Planned Parenthood in 1952, eight national family planning associations founded the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
67 years later, the charity is a Federation of 118 Member Associations working in 129 countries, with an active presence in a further 13 countries, totalling 142 countries in which IPPF works. In 2019, we delivered 252.3 million sexual and reproductive health services.
Funding and structure
The IPPF Secretariat comprises Central Office in London and six Regions, currently working out of five locations:
- Africa (Nairobi)
- Arab World (Tunis)
- East and South East Asia and Oceania (Kuala Lumpur)
- European Network (Brussels)
- South Asia (Bangkok hub and Delhi sub-office)
- Americas and the Caribbean (Colombia and Trinidad)
Each Regional Office oversees, promotes and distributes core funds to Member Associations in the Region.
The work of IPPF is overseen by its Board of Trustees.
Volunteerism is central to IPPF’s ethos and millions of volunteers work with the Federation around the world.
